Nigerian engineers needs inclusion to tackle food production - NSE Exco

A National Executive Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eng Felix Adediran, has stated that the Federal Government would have to carry along indigenous engineers in its bid to luring Nigerians to farm and increase food production.

He made this call during an interview with NEB at the Okanlawon Science Academy, where he was made the role model of the school in Osogbo recently.

He stated that the engineers were ready if only the government was willing to employ their service, saying the policies of the government towards the Nigerian engineers had not been favourable.

He emphasized that instead of wasting fortunes on the importation of farm implements, the engineers in the could construct better implements that would enhance agricultural practice in the country.

He said, "the government only see the foreign engineers whenever anything is to be done in this country, neglecting the ones in the country. The only role a Nigerian engineer would play is to assist the foreigners and how will this grow our economy, if when they are through the monies would be taken back to their country.

" There is nothing the Foreigners can do that the Nigerians cannot do. We are sick of all these mishaps. If you get to their plants you will see Nigerians handling pivotal role in most of their construction so why can't we even create jobs in this country by promoting our engineers."

The proprietor of the school, Mr Badmus Ismael, said, Felix Adediran, who was the crowned fourth role model of the school, was picked to encourage the pupils of the in their chosen line of career, which is science.

He also commended the move by the Minister of Science and Technology to ensure that science subjects, including Mathematics were taught in indigenous language.

But he said a lot of obstacles would have to be leapt in order to achieve the goal.

He said," there is need to first of all ensure quality in the system because there are some teachers who cannot even render comprehensive explanation on matter as a topic in English Language talk less of giving it in their indigenous language."
