‘Court Rector vs Governor’s Rector’: OSPOLY Students React to Closure of Institution
……. Decry persistent waste of their time
Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have reacted to the ongoing Rectorship crisis in the institution, tagging it as a waste of their precious time.
It will be recalled that the Osun State govt had ordered the immediate closure of the institution, directing the students and members of staff to go on a two—week break, after the suspended rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo resumed back to office today, leaving the acting rector who was also reportedly on his way to office to make a detour.
According to the statement by the Ministry of Education, the closure was ordered to maintain peace amidst the ongoing issues.
However, taking to their social media spaces in reaction, the students decried how the continuous rector issues have continued to affect and waste their ‘precious’ time.
“After ASUP spent 30 days on their protest leaving the school closed, here comes another 2 Weeks closure to waste our precious time “ a final year student reacts via WhatsApp status.
In the same vein, some students also tagged the ongoing crisis as a fight between the governor-appointed Rector and the Court's chosen rector, considering the motive that the Court had granted Odetayo the order for his status quo to remain, while the acting rector, Alabi Kehinde was appointed by the Governor, Ademola Adeleke after the government suspended Odetayo over allegations of corruption, misuse of office and others.
In the same vein, a student who also seems not to be pleased with the development also recounted ho the continuous extension of academic time has continued to affect her plan to get married.
“Another 2 weeks closure of the institution, this institution is wasting our time, they are delaying my marriage plans,” she wrote.
The students of the institution have however cried out and pleaded for a fast and lasting solution to the ongoing crisis which has affected their academic activities and thereby prolonging their days on campus.
