In a glamorous and momentous event, the Higher National Diploma (HND 2) students of Mass Communication department, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have surprised a senior lecturer, Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo with gifts for his dedication.

The event was took place at New Lecture Hall (NLH1) of the institution today 10th March, 2025 during a lecture in the course of the lecturer, (MAC 415: Digital Journalism).

Overwhelmed with kind gesture by the students, Adeagbo expressed his deep appreciation, revealing that he was not expecting such kindness as he marveled.

Emphasizing on the popular statement that "Lecturers' rewards are in heaven," Adeagbo explained that as a results of what the students did today, it is evident that lecturers' rewards are still on earth.

"I was not expecting it. I was really surprised and overwhelmed. It was an interesting and surprising package and I am happy to see that I am being rewarded today," Aderemi stated.

He further stressed that "it is a clarion call to do more. For my students to recognized this, that means I don't have to relent. This signifies that if they (students) have more than what they gifted today, they can do more better."

"At this level, I thought they can't do this at the moment, probably in the future but I am really surprised. I am thankful to all the students that at this level of my career, I can still be appreciated" he said.

Aderemi, however, inspired the students to keep doing better, focusing on their studies and keep aspiring, noting that they (students) will surely actualize their dreams and aspirations. He added that "It is not over until it is over.”

Clearing the notion that in return of the kind gesture, it was an attempt by students to solicit better grades in exams, Adeagbo maintained that "that was the reason we continued the ongoing lecture at the period in order to give what they (students) need. If it is because of the rewards, one could have ended the lecture and declared that everyone have passed. I took my time despite the surprise, joy and happiness. It is not for the 'marks' but for them to get prepared for future challenge.

In the same vein, he expounded that the honor rewarded to him is a lesson to all lecturers, students and staff, saying that the society is watching and all their efforts will be rewarded. "It is my advice to other Lecturers and staff of the institution to keep contributing their quota to the academic environment while it is a service to humanity and one day, people will reward them, Adeagbo noted.

According to students, the gesture was inspired by the lecturers’ kind and friendly nature and his practical acumen in courses which has significantly impacted their academic pursuits.

The social director of NAMACOS, Omotola Pamilerin, while speaking with NEB, noted that Dr. Adeagbo deserves the special honor he received from students while he also said that he is one of the best lecturers in the department and institution generally.

The gifts, which ranged from packets of bottled water; fruits; raw foods; money; snacks etc were presented to Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo during a surprise ceremony while he was lecturing in class.
