The Dean of Student Affairs at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr. Tope Abiola, has described the digital system of the conduction of 2025/2026 Students Union Government (SUG) election was introduced to prevent the violence and chaos that usually accompany student elections on campus.

While speaking with Press, Dr. Abiola explained that when he first suggested the idea of e-voting, he received strong support from the school authorities, governing council, Management, staff, and the student union. “I firstly presented the proposal verbally, and they asked me to put it in writing. I did, and it was accepted,” Tope Abiola said.

According to him, before implementing the system in Iree, he went to Federal Polytechnic, Offa, where he knew they successfully conducted their own e-voting. This, he said, gave him the knowledge and confidence needed to apply the same method in OSPOLY.

He added that the benefits of the new process were clear to see. "The election was peaceful, students voted from their hostels, and some even voted from outside the state without any issue. Unlike in the past, there were no reports of violence, movement of crowds, or the use of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, axes, or guns," DSA noted.

To ensure safety, Dr. Abiola confirmed that security agencies, including the Police, DSS, and NSCDC, were on ground to monitor proceedings and prevent any unforeseen problem. He noted that the days when elections would throw the whole of Iree into crisis were now over.

The Dean also appreciated the Rector of the institution, whom he described as “God-chosen,” for supporting the initiative. He praised the rector for always listening to his team and taking their advice and not believing in his personal ability alone.

Dr. Abiola encouraged other schools in Osun State, including Osun State University, College of Education Ila-Orangun, College of Technology Esa-Oke, and the College of Health Technology, to adopt the system. “Of course, OSPOLY leads, others follow,” he said.
