• Buhari Apologises To Nigerians, Abiola Family


    President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised to Nigerians for the annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election widely acclaimed to have been won by late chief MKO Abiola.

     He tendered the apology while presiding over the Commemoration and investiture organised in Abuja in honour of the late Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate; his running mate, Ambassador Basa Gana kingibe, and late chief Gani Fawehinmi.

    Abiola was conferred with the Grand commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), while kingibe and fawehinmi got the honour of the Grand Commander of the order of the Niger (GCON).

    The president said, "Today I am very happy to be present and to be president over the Commemoration and investiture which makes the Federal Government to recognize June 12 as National Democracy Day.

    "Our decision to recognise and honour June 12 and its actors is in the National interest.

    "On behalf of the Federal Government, I tender the National Apology to the Family of Late Abiola who got the highest votes and to those that lost their loved ones to the cause of June 12 struggle."
