• Ospoly Debunks ASUP PRO’s Allegations, Sues For Peace


    Following the allegations of the Public Relations Officer of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Iree chapter, Kamoru Alimi, that the management of Osun State Polytechnic has denied members of the union their statutory rights and salaries which resulted to the ongoing strike, the management of the institution has described the allegation as false.

    The Media Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Tope Abiola disclosed in a chat with NAMACOS Online that out of the four institutions owned by the state: Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; Osun State College of Technology, Esa-oke; and the state Colleges of Education in Ila – Orangun and Ilesa; only Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has paid the highest portion of the alleged allowances which the ASUP PRO described as Peculiar, Medical, and Hazard allowances.

     “The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree is far ahead of others,” he added.

    Speaking further, Abiola disclosed that the contending 2018 peculiar is in the state government budget which is awaiting the State Governor's assent, adding that "no ministry, parastatal or any agency of government can implement an unapproved budget of a state."

    He however expressed optimism that the contending allowances would be paid by the authority of the institution when the budget is finally assented.

    When asked what the institution is doing to maintain peace and harmony on the campus, Mr. Abiola disclosed that both the Governing Council of the institution and the management  have had series of meetings with the executives of the union, explaining to them the situation of things. He noted that with the outcome of the series of meetings held so far, “things will soon be resolved”.

    The media executive stressed that the welfare of  staffers of the institution is paramount to the Rector, Dr. J. O. Agboola and his management team.

    He assured that the Agboola’s led management would not deny the staffers of their  statutory rights and benefits, he appealed to the workers to remain calm and go on with their official duties.

    Mr. Abiola also called on  students of the institution not to boycott their academic activities on the campus. He urged  them to maintain peace and continue with  their normal academic engagements.
