Osun Honourable Describes OSPOLY as Reputable

Honourable Jamiu Olawumi, the Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, on Education, has described Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, as reputable in students' training and management, over the years.

Honourable Olawumi made the amazing commendations at the Seventh Combined Convocation Ceremony Lecture on Wednesday in the institution.

He also advised that as the institution is planning to convoke 14, 000 graduands on Thursday (26th May 2022); it should establish a scheme for equipping graduates, entrepreneurially.

Honourable Olawumi said graduates with business plans submitted to the institution should be allowed to secure a loan for a minimum of 200,000 nairas to start a business on their own. "By so doing, the State and the nation will grow, richly," he added.

In his words, "this Institution is a reputable one. When I heard it was 14,000 graduands to be convoked, I marvelled. I said, well done. It is not easy.

"And I'll say, for these students to be graduating, there should be equally something the institution will be doing for them, also. 

"We, as the government have our part to take in ensuring students get the best but the institution should also have something, as well.

"There should be a scheme established to just offer loans for only students that submitted their business plans. The scheme will review them and if they are worthy, then, grant them loans with a minimum of 200,000 thousand nairas for them to startup.

"This thing I said is in effect in Osun State University and I believe, the Rector, Dr Olawoye Olaniran will see to that as well, here in OSPOLY."

Moreover, he bid students to open an account with the Institution's Microfinance Bank, adding that when the institution is to consider them for a loan, this can be one of the criteria.

Furthermore, the Guest Speaker, Professor Idowu Akintayo also spoke extensively on the need for students, individuals, government and institutions to embrace the concept of Entrepreneurship, especially, the advanced aspect of it he called, 'Green-Entrepreneurship.'

He said the government should also provide loans, grants and opportunities for individuals as they also embrace green entrepreneurial activities.

He described green entrepreneurship as one so much concern about environment.

The professor enjoined Polytechnic Institutions to teach students how to become job givers and not seekers while motivating students to as well, learn how to be independent and create jobs for themselves. 

Worthy of note, being the penultimate section to herald the main event—Seventh Combined Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, the lecture was graced with the presence of other political functionaries, the head of governing Council and members, the Institution's Rector; Dr Olawoye Olaniran, Deputy Rector; Dr Odetayo, Registrar, Bursar, Committee of Deans, Head of Departments and as well, students across the several departments in the institution.

The convocation is set to commence by 10 Am on Thursday, 26th May 2022.
