EXPLAINER: After Almost Getting Suspended in HND1, Again, Mass Comm HND2 Class Governor Locked Class Group For Eight Days Without Explanation
Accountability is one of the greatest responsibilities of any leader, as it ensures transparency in day-to-day administration. Directly or indirectly every elected or selected leader owes the people a valid explanation, especially in issues that demands clarification to avoid a selfish government.
A popular saying insisted that the power of the people is greater than the power of the people in government. This is to logically justify that the power of government is useless without the people.
However, it is safe to assume that the HND2 Mass Communication Governor, Afolabi Taiwo has believed the power with him as a class governor, is greater than the demand of accountability by the people.
Surprisingly, unlike many of his other unethical acts, he has once again locked his coursemate's class group for eight days without addressing them about it.
The Governor, during his administration in HND 1 was almost suspended due to his alleged sluggishness, inactiveness and for being incapable to express his duties, but was however pardoned after he offered apologies.
However, one with a forgiving mind would, however, think the incident would put a stop to his unkind acts, but this, however, turns out to be wrong as he has afterwards contributed to his inactiveness, in which there have been various cases of him misplacing the public address system which affected the quality of lectures that should be received by his course mates.
On Thursday, August 3, 2023, there was a constructive exchange of words in the class group, which entails a call for accountability and behaviour analysis by some students which included the Editor-in-Chief of NEB, Michael Obisesan and the department Financial Secretary, Ojuade Ibrahim who happens to be a close friend of the class governor.
After a few minutes of dialogue among the students, the class governor went ahead to delete some messages of the NEB EIC leaving his friend's messages untouched. This raised concern among some students as they questioned why he deleted some messages but left his friend's messages which also played significant roles in the dialogue untouched, these queries, however, prompted him to go ahead and delete some of his friend's messages at a very dark hour to decisively justify is earlier biased decision.
However, after various demands for an explanation, as regards the reason for his decisions, the governor choose not to address his coursemates as he successfully ignored all messages that demanded the justification behind his decision.
Precious hours have passed by, but the Governor insisted on not opening the group which has now been closed for eight (8) days. This action has directly on indirectly affected the circulation of information and the freedom of expression of the students.
Also, the governor after locking the main group has been tagged in other alternative groups to justify his decisions in which he successfully ignored.
Eight days and still counting, the Governor has locked the class group without explanation.
