BREAKING: NABAMS ISEC Chairman, Ocheme Speaks Out on Election Disruption
The Chairman of the Independent Students Electoral Commission (ISEC) of National Association of Management Students (NABAMS), Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Ocheme Augustine Onuh, has revealed that the recent election was free and fair until the final results were announced. Unknown individuals, unhappy with the results, disrupted the process.
This was said during an interview with NEB following a report published on the results of the election in which mixed reactions were raised, noting that the just concluded election was not "free and fair."
According to Onuh, the disruption occurred after the counting of votes and announcement of scores. "It remains documenting the whole election score sheet so that all candidates' agents will sign, and the whole process was disrupted," he said.
"All ballot papers were destroyed, and election materials were destroyed. Only the rough election sheet was the only thing that we could hold that was with us."
He similarly explained that "report have it that the faculty president was beaten by some unknown persons even the departmental president has a dislocation on his arm yesterday."
In a video obtained by NEB, ballot papers were seen scattered on the floor.
Furthermore, the Departmental President, Adeleye Meekaeel Alawiye, corroborated Onuh's account, stating that he was attacked after the announcement of the President's results.
"An unknown guy hit me, and my shoulder ball and socket joint was affected," Alawiye said.
He added that the Lecturers of the department and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Tope Abiola, have started investigating the issue.
In a related development, the Students Union President-Elect, Ajayi Kehinde Emmanuel, while speaking in an interview denied allegations of bringing thugs to disrupt the election.
This, following myriad statements alleging that he brought thugs to the election ground to have instigate violence and attacks on voters.
"The allegations against me are untrue and false," he said. "After I cast my vote, I left to attend to another assignment. It was during the announcement of results that I later arrived at the election ground."
"The General Secretary position was in their favor as well as Vice President position. The losing side did not reacted but when it reached the position of the President and the results was not in their favor, they attacked the ISEC members and the Faculty President was beaten," he said.
