From Doubt to Reality: OSPOLY Launches CBT Exams Amid Early Challenges
The long-awaited transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) at Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has finally become a reality as the institution commenced its first semester examinations through digital platforms.
The CBT examinations, which began on April 27, marked a major shift from the traditional pen-and-paper method. While many students initially doubted whether the institution would successfully implement the system, the rollout has now become a reality across different faculties and departments.
However, despite the excitement surrounding the innovation, the exercise has been greeted with several challenges faced by students during the examinations.
During HND II Entrepreneurship examination further exposed some of the difficulties experienced during the CBT process. Students reportedly spent hours writing examinations in halls across the institution, including the ETF, ICT II, Research centre.
According to several students who spoke on the condition of anonymity, gaining access into the examination halls became stressful due to overcrowding and poor coordination.
“There was serious pushing and rushing before students could enter the hall. The crowd was too much,” a student explained.
Another student alleged that the tension and stress in the examination environment affected some candidates physically, as a student reportedly fainted during the process.
Beyond the physical struggle, students also complained about technical issues affecting the CBT exercise. Some candidates reportedly experienced portal errors while trying to access their examination pages, causing delays and confusion.
Others also raised concerns about unstable network connection and the pressure associated with using personal mobile devices for examinations.
Some students questioned whether the current situation reflects the standard expected from a modern digital examination system.
“Is this really what we paid for?” one student asked while reacting to the situation.
Despite the complaints, many students still acknowledged that the introduction of CBT examinations represents a progressive step for the institution. However, they appealed to the management to improve coordination, technical support, and examination arrangements in order to reduce stress on students.
Students also called on the institution to establish more organized CBT centres and provide better examination conditions to ensure smoother exercises in subsequent examinations.
As the examinations continue, many students hope the institution will address the observed shortcomings and strengthen the system for future academic sessions.
