The meeting, held in Iree, featured the presentation of the National Secretariat Report and the Association's audited financial statement, as well as interviews with prominent alumni, including the President of the OSPAA Year 2000 Set, Dr. Gbenga Oladiran, who advised students to complement their academic qualifications with practical and digital skills.

Presenting the National Secretariat Report, the National Secretary of OSPAA, Hon. Akeula Kolawole Okunola (Barthez), urged members to remain united and committed to the continuous growth of their alma mater.

He appreciated members for their loyalty and support while commending the Governing Council and Management of Osun State Polytechnic, led by the Rector, Alhaji Kehinde Alabi, for their unwavering support for the Alumni Association.

Hon. Okunola said the association had continued to enjoy peace and stability through dialogue and reconciliation under the leadership of National President Alhaji Akeem Yakub Adebayo. He also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, including Dr. Yomi Odebunmi and Mr. Gbade Adebayo, towards strengthening the association.

He disclosed that the Lagos Chapter had successfully conducted its election after receiving approval for an extension, while urging the Osun and Oyo chapters to comply with constitutional directives.

The National Secretary further encouraged graduating sets and departmental alumni groups to emulate the Mass Communication Alumni of OSPOLY, Iree (MAOS) and the 2001/2002 Set, whose interventions include the donation of a solar-powered borehole and functional studio equipment to the institution.

Reviewing activities during the association's 31st anniversary celebration, Hon. Okunola described the programme as a major success, noting that it featured lectures, a novelty football match, welfare activities and donations to the institution's Staff Football Team. He added that the event attracted distinguished alumni, government officials, Governing Council members and traditional rulers, including the Timi of Ede.

He also informed members of preparations for the forthcoming national election, stating that a new Electoral Committee and caretaker committees had been constituted in line with resolutions reached at the previous AGM. He urged aspirants and members to uphold transparency, accountability, fairness and the provisions of the association's constitution.

The Association also presented its audited financial statement for the year ended December 31, 2025.

Speaking during an interview with the NAMACOS Editorial Board on the sidelines of the AGM, the President of the OSPAA Year 2000 Set, Dr. Gbenga Oladiran, advised students to look beyond classroom learning by acquiring practical, vocational and digital skills.

Dr. Oladiran, an alumnus of the Department of Banking and Finance who graduated about 25 to 26 years ago, disclosed that he currently serves as a Branch Manager of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Surulere. He also recalled serving as Stakeholders' Secretary during the formation of the Alumni Association more than two decades ago.

He attributed his professional success to continuous learning, determination and the support of mentors, explaining that his career has extended beyond banking into insurance, corporate social responsibility, staff training and strategic planning.

Speaking on leadership, he noted that many people shy away from leadership because of criticism.

"Criticism should be seen as feedback that helps leaders improve rather than something that discourages them," he said.

Dr. Oladiran explained that OSPAA remains committed to supporting the institution through developmental initiatives aimed at producing graduates equipped for today's competitive labour market.

He urged students not to rely solely on classroom education but to embrace digital innovation, entrepreneurship and vocational skills, stressing that combining academic excellence with practical competence would make them more employable and valuable to society.

The AGM ended with members reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the association, promoting alumni welfare and supporting the continued development of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
