The National Secretary of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Alumni Association (OSPAA), Hon. Akeula Kolawole Okunola (Barthez), has called on members of the association to remain united and committed to the continued growth and development of their alma mater.
Hon. Okunola made the appeal while presenting the National Secretariat Report at the association's 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at OSPAA Secretariat, Osun State Polytechnic Iree.
In his address, the National Secretary thanked God for the association's progress and appreciated members for their loyalty, cooperation, and unwavering support. He also commended the management and Governing Council of Osun State Polytechnic, led by the Rector, Alhaji Kehinde Alabi, for their continued support toward the advancement of the association.
Speaking on membership and unity, Okunola said OSPAA has continued to enjoy increased peace, stability, and cooperation among members through constructive dialogue and reconciliation. He attributed the progress to the leadership of the National President, Alhaji Akeem Yakub Adebayo, while acknowledging the contributions of stakeholders, including Dr. Yomi Odebunmi and Mr. Gbade Adebayo, for their roles in fostering unity within the association.
The National Secretary also provided updates on the activities of various chapters, graduating sets, and departments. He disclosed that the Lagos Chapter had successfully conducted its election after receiving an extension of time, while urging the Osun and Oyo chapters to comply with constitutional directives.
He further encouraged graduating sets and departmental alumni associations to emulate the Mass Communication Old Students (MAOS) and the 2001/2002 Set, which recently donated a solar-powered borehole and functional studio equipment to the institution.
Reviewing the association's 31st anniversary celebration, Okunola described the event as successful, highlighting activities such as lectures, a novelty football match, and donations to the institution's Staff Football Team. He noted that the celebration attracted members of the Governing Council, government officials, distinguished alumni, and traditional rulers, including the Timi of Ede.
On preparations for the forthcoming national election, the National Secretary reminded members of resolutions reached at the previous AGM, including the inauguration of a new Electoral Committee, the establishment of caretaker committees for affected chapters, and the constitution of an investigative panel to review the activities of the former electoral committee.
He urged members and aspirants to uphold the principles of democracy, transparency, accountability, fairness, and respect for the association's constitution throughout the electoral process.
Okunola also reaffirmed the Secretariat's commitment to members' welfare through initiatives designed to improve their well-being and encouraged all chapters to strengthen welfare structures while promoting compassion and solidarity.
He concluded by calling on members to remain united and committed to the ideals of the association, stressing that collective efforts would continue to drive the growth of OSPAA and contribute to the development of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
