Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo Pledges Practical Training as New OSPOLY Mass Communication HOD

The newly appointed Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, Dr. Aderemi Surajudeen Adeagbo, has pledged to strengthen practical learning and equip students with industry-relevant skills to meet the demands of the modern media profession.
Dr. Adeagbo pledged in an exclusive interview with the NEB Correspondence shortly after assuming office as the department's new Head.
Speaking on his vision for the department, the Senior Lecturer said Mass Communication is a practical-oriented discipline that requires students to acquire hands-on experience in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, advertising, filmmaking, and media production alongside classroom learning.
According to him, one of his major priorities is to improve practical training by working closely with lecturers and other members of staff to address existing challenges confronting the department.
"I strongly believe in practical learning. Mass Communication is not just about theory; it is about developing practical skills in writing, broadcasting, presentation, filmmaking and media production. One of my priorities is to strengthen practical training. I will work with lecturers and other staff to improve our practical sessions and address the challenges we currently face. My goal is to ensure that students graduate with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the media industry," he said.
Offering advice to students, Dr. Adeagbo urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and passionate about their studies while avoiding negative influences.
He encouraged students to work hard, remain committed to their goals, and uphold the values instilled in them, stressing that determination and consistency are essential for success in every field of Mass Communication.
On his appointment, the new Head of Department expressed gratitude to God, the Polytechnic Management, his senior colleagues and everyone who supported his emergence.
He described the appointment as an honour and a recognition of years of dedication to teaching and academic service.
Speaking on his previous administrative experience as the OSPOLY KOKO Mass Communication Coordinator, Dr. Adeagbo explained that the role prepared him for his current responsibility because it involved working closely with students, lecturers and other stakeholders.
He attributed his ability to combine academic and administrative responsibilities to teamwork and the support of his colleagues.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Dr. Adeagbo described his years of service in the department as fulfilling, saying every stage of his career had contributed to his growth as an educator.
He noted that one of the greatest rewards of being a lecturer is witnessing the success of former students and knowing that the knowledge and guidance he offered played a role in shaping their future.
"Every stage of my academic career has been memorable. One of the greatest joys of being a lecturer is seeing your students succeed and knowing that the knowledge and encouragement you gave them contributed to their success," he stated.
The new Head of Department acknowledged that his career had not been without challenges but described every obstacle as an opportunity for growth and learning.
"Challenges are part of life. The important thing is not to give up. Challenges make us stronger and help us plan better for the future. By God's grace, we have overcome many difficulties, and we will continue to move forward," he said.
Dr. Adeagbo's appointment marks a new phase in the leadership of the Department of Mass Communication as students, lecturers and alumni look forward to his administration and the implementation of initiatives aimed at strengthening practical learning, academic excellence and professional development.
