• NANS JCC Osun Convention: NEB Investigates Reported Death of OSPOLY Student

    By Samuel Akintola, Afeez Ogungbemi

NEB begins independent verification as questions emerge over circumstances surrounding Ademiju Ayeni's death.

The NAMACOS Editorial Board (NEB) is following reports concerning the death of Ademiju Ayeni, a student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, during the 2026 NANS Joint Campus Council (JCC) Osun Convention in Osogbo.

Ayeni, popularly known as Jago, has been identified in online reports as a student in the Department of Estate Management at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

The NANS JCC Osun convention was held on Saturday, 29th of August, 2026, at the NUJ Secretariat in Osogbo

According to reports reviewed by NEB, Ayeni died following an incident connected to the convention. The Osun State Police Command has confirmed awareness of the incident. Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi said there had earlier been a disagreement during the convention and that Ayeni was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The police also indicated that an autopsy would be conducted.

However, several details surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation.

Different accounts circulating publicly have raised questions about what happened before Ayeni sustained the fatal injury, the sequence of events at the convention venue, and the circumstances surrounding his death.

NEB has also observed calls from members of the student community for transparency and justice, including questions about communication from relevant student leadership and other authorities following the incident.

At this stage, NEB is not adopting unverified claims concerning the identity of any alleged perpetrator, motive or circumstances beyond what has been independently established.

The NEB became aware of the reports after information began circulating among students and on social media. Rather than simply reproduce circulating claims, the newsroom has commenced its own review of the information currently available.

    Our preliminary review confirms that:

Ademiju Ayeni was a student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

He was reported dead following an incident connected to the NANS JCC Osun Convention in Osogbo.

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed awareness of the case.

Police say further investigation, including an autopsy, is expected.

Important questions surrounding the incident remain unresolved.

NEB will continue to follow the matter and publish further information as it is independently verified.

For the student community, the issue is bigger than the circulation of a social-media report. It concerns the circumstances surrounding the death of a student and the need for accurate information, accountability and a transparent investigation.

This is an ongoing report. NEB will update it as verified information becomes available.
