SUG Election Update: Ogunsakin Denies Existence of Management Candidate, Says Leadership Should Be Based on Merit

The Speaker of the Students' Union Government (SUG) House of Representatives, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, Dist. Sen. Comrade Samuel Ogunsakin, has dismissed allegations that the Polytechnic Management has a preferred candidate ahead of the forthcoming Students' Union election.
Ogunsakin made this known during an exclusive interview with the NEB Board, describing the claims as baseless and urging students to judge aspirants based on their competence, commitment, and leadership qualities.
According to the SUG Speaker, the election process should be determined by the credibility and ability of candidates rather than any alleged external influence.
"There is nothing like a management candidate. If you are fit to be there, you will get there. If you are not fit, you won't," Ogunsakin stated.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Independent Students' Electoral Commission (ISEC) to conduct a free, fair, and credible election, noting that the inauguration of the commission would further strengthen students' confidence in the electoral process.
Ogunsakin clarified that the responsibility for inaugurating ISEC lies with the Students' Representative Council (SRC), being the legislative arm of the Students' Union Government, and not the Polytechnic Management.
He added that the commission would play a significant role in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.
The SUG Speaker also encouraged students to participate actively in the election and support candidates based on their leadership capacity, commitment, and willingness to serve.
He maintained that the Students' Union election should remain a platform where students freely choose their representatives without intimidation or undue influence.
