ISEC Dissolves SUG Executive, SRC, Constitutes Electoral Structure for 2026/2027 Academic Session Election

The newly constituted Independent Students Electoral Commission (ISEC) of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has dissolved the Student Union Government (SUG) Executive Council and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) as part of the process towards the 2026/2027 students’ union election.
The development took place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Board of Studies (BOS) during the final appearance of the SRC members, led by the Senate President, Senator Ogunsakin Samuel.

Speaking during the occasion, the outgoing Senate President stated that Article 1, Section 7 of the Students’ Union Government Constitution empowers the SRC to appoint members of the ISEC responsible for conducting students’ union elections.
He further explained that Section 5 of Article 7 of the constitution also mandates the SRC to nominate an Election Petition Committee ahead of the election to address complaints that may arise from the electoral process.
According to him, three representatives from each of the seven faculties of the institution would serve as members of the ISEC, with the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education excluded from the arrangement.
The Senate President thereafter swore in the newly constituted ISEC members, including the Chairman, Adekunle Adeniran Raphael; Vice Chairman, Amusa Ayanfeoluwa; Secretary, Shittu Faruq; Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Victoria; and Financial Secretary, Ojo Hammed.
Addressing the newly constituted ISEC members, the Students’ Affairs Officer (SAO), Mr. Olawoyin P.F., addressed concerns surrounding the examination timetable and urged students to properly follow the timetable that would be issued. He clarified that the timetable was not designed to prolong the stay of the current SUG Executive Council on campus.
The SAO also appreciated all faculty presidents for providing three students each from their respective faculties to serve in the electoral process. He explained that the constitution of the ISEC was not the responsibility of the newly constituted commission, noting that the SRC would handle the constitutional process.
He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the ISEC members was to ensure that the electoral process was conducted successfully and smoothly. He added that if there were no functional SRC, the ISEC members would have been responsible for carrying out certain responsibilities, but with the existence of the SRC, such duties would remain with the council.
In his acceptance remarks, the newly sworn-in ISEC Chairman, Adekunle Adeniran Raphael, pledged to conduct a free, fair, and credible election. He also urged all aspirants to abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.
The event was attended by notable lecturers and members of staff of the institution, including the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Olutope Abiola, the Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs, and the Sub-Dean, Dr. Akinbode Sandapo.
