OSPOLY DECIDES ’26: FINAL HOURS COUNT AS SUG CAMPAIGNS REACH CLIMAX
With barely hours to the 2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Osun State Polytechnic ( OSPOLY ) , Iree, the campus is witnessing intensified campaign activity as presidential aspirants and their supporters make their final appeals to students.
The Independent Students Electoral Commission (ISEC) has scheduled the election for Saturday, September 19, 2026, with voting to take place online through the OSPOLY student portal from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The commission has also urged eligible students to participate peacefully and within the stipulated period.
At the centre of the presidential contest are Comr. Oyediran Abdullateef Olawale, popularly known as MUSLAT, and Ogunmodede Oluwatobiloba Olanrewaju, P.K.A. OGM, whose campaign materials have presented different approaches to the race. Recent reporting on the contest describes MUSLAT's campaign as largely centred on a six-point agenda, while OGM's presentation places greater emphasis on previous student leadership experience, advocacy and leadership values.
MUSLAT's proposed M-U-S-L-A-T Agenda includes Mobilisation Through Technology, Utility for Students, Skills, Entrepreneurship and Education, Let Talent Shine, Accountability and Representation, and Togetherness. Among the specific projects highlighted are an OSPOLY SUG App, a student charging hub, a skills initiative and an OSPOLY talent hunt.
His campaign material identifies him as an HND 1 Mass Communication student and states that he previously served as Deputy Senate President of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.
On the other side, OGM's campaign profile highlights his experience in student leadership, identifying him as a former Students' Union Association Chairman for the 2023/2024 period. His campaign materials also emphasise advocacy, organisation, representation, teamwork and accountability.
Beyond the presidential race, other candidates are also seeking positions across the union leadership structure. Campaign materials circulating among students show different teams and individual aspirants presenting their programmes, slogans and visions ahead of voting.
The final stretch of the campaign has therefore shifted attention from declarations to questions of what candidates are promising, how those promises could be implemented, what experience they bring, and how they intend to remain accountable to students.
For OSPOLY students, September 19 will provide the opportunity to decide through the electoral process. With voting scheduled to close at 3:00 p.m., eligible voters are expected to access the portal within the approved timeframe.
As the campaign noise gives way to the ballot, the focus now turns to participation, peaceful conduct and the choices that students will make for the next chapter of student representation at OSPOLY tomorrow.
