Ospoly Senate President Describes OSUN NANS Proposed Protest as ‘External Influence’, Urges Students to Wait for SUG Directives
The Senate President of the legislative Arms of Osun State State Polytechnic, Iree, Faramola Oluwasegun has described a memo that proposed a protest from the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) joint campus council as an external influence.
Recalled that OSUN NANS JCC released a memo earlier today, urging the government of OSUN state to find a fast and lasting solution to the closure of the institution or risk a protest from the Body.
Reacting to NANS JCC statement In a public memo on Friday, the Senate President stated that although the proposed protest announced by Osun NANS may be well-meaning, however, it lacks the alignment of the institution's objective and interests as the protest decision by NANS wasn't initiated by the institution’s Students Union Government (SUG).
He further stressed that the ongoing crisis should be addressed with clarity and responsibility, stating that protest despite being a form of peaceful demonstration should be considered carefully and coordinated with the Students Union Government of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, and other relevant bodies to ensure alignment of action towards the institutional goal.
However, he urged all the students of the institution to refrain from any form of protest until the students' Union body and relevant bodies agreed on a collective interest to tackle the current disruption of academic activities.
