FL: Acting Rector, Mr Kehinde Alabi; Suspended Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo |
The Osun State House of Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has summoned the Suspended Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo and the acting Rector, Mr Kehinde Alabi to appear before the House on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
According to the information contained in the public memo which was released through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Laide Lawal on Friday, the two invitees are to appear before the House by 11.00 A.m.
Also, the memo requested the two invitees to come with necessary documents and other information that can assist the oversight duties of the Senate.
“In exercising its oversight responsibilities in line with Section 129 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended), the Osun State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has directed the acting Rector and the immediate past Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Mr Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi and Dr.Tajudeen Adewale Odetayo respectively to appear before the Honourable House on Tuesday, 19th September, 2023 by 11.00am.”
“While coming, the two invitees should come with necessary documents and other information that can assist the Honourable House in its oversight duties. “
It will be recalled that Odetayo was suspended as the rector of the institution by the state government over allegations concerning corruption, misuse of office and others.
However, immediately replaced with an acting rector, Mr Kehinde Alabi, Odetayo headed to court to challenge his suspension, in which the Court ruled that his status quo should remain pending the outcome of the suit.
The development further led to an uproar after the suspended rector appeared in the office on Thursday, September 2023, which forced the Acting rector who later described the appearance as a ‘forceful invasion’ to make a detour despite being on his way to the office, as well.
Meanwhile, reacting to the development, the government of Osun State ordered the immediate closure of the institution, directing the staff members and students to embark on a two-week holiday while it also froze the institution’s account.
