The Chairman of Nigeria Institute of Public Relation(NIPR), Osun State Chapter, who doubles as the Public Relation Officer, Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Mr. Adesola Adesoji, has today, during the Freshers Orientation Programme organized by the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, National Association of Mass Communication students (NAMACOS), charged the students of the department to pursue knowledge and experiences outside the traditional classroom settings that will ensure their relevances in the future.
While speaking at the Freshers Orientation Programme which was held at the New Lecture Hall (NLH1) of OSPOLY, the guest speaker, Mr Adesola Adesoji during his lecture on the theme “Defining Your Success Path: Lessons From My Journey,” noted that while he began his academic phase, he faced uncertainties however, his journey was anything but straightforward.
He shared that "Before earning my first degree, I had attended more than five institutions. Not because I was unserious, but because life had it's unique way of testing my resolve. He noted that with all these, he refused to be discouraged but determined not to stop until he was able to achieve his goals while he thereafter pursued his vision with passion.
Ademola explained that his academic foundation which was quite diverse as a results of studying three disciplines (Science, Commercial and Arts) before leaving secondary school and obtained its certificates was not because he was confused but his hunger for knowledge shaped him into professionalism today.
He further stressed that he channeled his energy into creating solutions rather than complaining amidst the challenges faced in his academic pursuit.
"That was why I initiated a programme tagged "Campus Scope," a platform designed to enlighten students, helping them to avoid the pitfalls I encountered. Through this initiative, I guided many young minds, ensuring they had the right information, mentorship and motivation to navigate their academic paths carefully,"
Adesoji therefore admonished the fresh students that "success is not about how fast you start but about how determined you are to finish." He highlighted diverse challenges that would be faced but ability to preserve will eventually pays off.
He said students should start to pursue practical knowledge in different areas of interest while in school such as Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Journalism, Marketing, Film Production just to mention but a few.
In the same vein, he advised students to embrace learning beyond the classroom; network and build meaningful relationships; be purposeful-driven and refuse to settle for less.
He also urged students to let his story be a reminder that no journey is to long, no obstacle is too big and no dream is to big. He said "you have the opportunity to define your future starting today. Make the right choices, embrace challenges and never stop learning."
Also, the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Idowu Akinrosoye, emphasized that the employment market is saturated but the practical knowledge acquired in the field of study will give an edge.
