The Namacos Editorial Board has officially welcomed a new Editor-in-Chief (EIC) as Akintola Samuel took over from Asiyanbi Abraham during a handover ceremony held at the board’s orientation program for newly elected executives.
Reflecting on his tenure, outgoing EIC Abraham described the role as both challenging and rewarding, noting that it demands far more than a single responsibility.
"The work of an Editor-in-Chief is a combination of many duties, and success is only possible through teamwork with the executive and other members of the board,” he said.
Abraham highlighted daily challenges faced by journalists—meeting deadlines, managing people, and ensuring accuracy in reporting. Despite these hurdles, he expressed pride in sustaining quality reporting and fostering unity among his team throughout his leadership.
He added that an Editor-in-Chief must serve as a leader, manager, mentor, and at times a problem solver, stressing that balancing these duties requires dedication and collaboration.
In his acceptance speech, the new EIC, Akintola Samuel, assured members of his commitment to advancing the publication.
"Leadership is not about occupying a position but about making meaningful contributions. Any position given to an individual is an opportunity to showcase talent and bring out the best,” Samuel stated.
Samuel pledged to work closely with the executive team to ensure smooth operations while encouraging creativity and discipline among reporters.
He concluded by outlining his vision for the board—anchored on teamwork, innovation, and a strong commitment to truth, fairness, and professionalism in journalism.
