As of today, 22nd October, 2025, concerned students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, raised an appeal letter over the growing environmental and safety challenges within the institution, following multiple sightings of snakes and other harmful wildlife on campus.
In a formal appeal addressed to the Rector of the institution, the students, through Comrade Ajani H. Olanrewaju, the Director of Special Duties, NANS JCC Osun Axis, called for the immediate clearing of overgrown bushes and the implementation of strict environmental maintenance measures across the school premises.
According to the letter, the students expressed deep concern over the
“Overgrown bushes left unattended in several areas of the campus, most notably in front of the Exams and Records office and other key academic buildings.”
The situation, as stated, has resulted in confirmed killings of snakes and other dangerous creatures, posing serious threats to both students and staff.
The appeal further highlighted the emotional impact of the situation, noting that it has created “an atmosphere of fear and anxiety, particularly during examination periods when students are expected to focus and perform under pressure.”
To ensure swift and lasting action, the students outlined the following requests to the management:
1. Immediate clearing of all overgrown vegetation across campus.
2. Routine maintenance schedule to sustain environmental safety.
3. Deployment of safety measures to monitor and prevent wildlife intrusion.
4. Transparent communication from the management regarding actions taken to resolve the issue.
Comrade Ajani emphasized in the letter that the appeal is not confrontational but a call for urgent attention to safeguard the lives and well-being of the school community.
“We trust in the leadership of the institution and believe that swift action will be taken to restore safety and confidence within our learning environment,” he said.
