• NAFSAN Iree Condemns Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction, Kwara Violence, Demands Federal Action

    By Samuel Akintola

The National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NAFSAN), Iree Chapter, has condemned the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the violent incident that occurred in Kwara State, urging the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security in the affected states and the country at large.

The association made its position known on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in a statement issued by Comrade Olanitori Omolola Mary, who described the incidents as disturbing and a painful reminder of the rising attacks on innocent citizens, especially children.

NAFSAN expressed concern that young learners have increasingly become victims of insecurity, stressing that schools should be centres of learning and growth, not places of fear. The association noted that the repeated attacks show clear lapses in the nation’s security structure and require urgent attention.

The group outlined several steps it wants the government to take, including deploying more security personnel to vulnerable communities and schools, strengthening intelligence gathering, ensuring prompt prosecution of perpetrators, and adopting long-term preventive strategies to keep students safe. It also urged the government to improve communication with communities to restore public confidence.

NAFSAN extended its sympathy to the families of the abducted girls and those affected by the violent incident in Kwara State, calling the situation heartbreaking and unacceptable.

The statement added that the safety of Nigerian students should be considered a national priority and that the government must act quickly to prevent further casualties.

According to Comrade Omolola, “Nigerian students deserve to live and learn without fear,” as she reaffirmed NAFSAN’s commitment to standing with affected families and advocating for safer learning environments across the country.
