JUST IN: OSPOLY SUG Begins Campus Engagement, Meets Medical, Admission Units Over Student Concerns
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has embarked on a courtesy visit to the institution’s Medical Centre and Admission Office, engaging both units on issues affecting student welfare and service delivery.
During the visit, which included members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), the union sought clarity on major concerns raised by students, ranging from medical screening delays to admission processing challenges.
During their visitation, at the School Medical Centre, officials disclosed that the unit is currently understaffed, describing inadequate manpower as one of their biggest challenges. Despite this, the medical team confirmed that the school ambulance remains functional and available for all emergencies.
The centre also announced that newly admitted students can begin medical screening immediately, provided they present proof of admission and evidence of medical-slip payment made during acceptance fee processing.
Medical personnel added that students can also receive treatment at LABAB Hospital, Eyinade—an extension of the school clinic—where fees are subsidized. With a valid school ID card, students will be charged only 10% of the standard cost.
The visit also led to a new concession for returning students. After intervention from the Senate President, the medical centre approved a one-week grace period, from 17th to 21st November 2025, for HND II and ND II students who are yet to complete their medicals.
After that, at the Admission Office, officials explained that one of their major challenges is the mandatory update of HND admissions on the NBTE portal before the institution can officially confirm candidates.
They clarified that only applicants who selected Osun State Polytechnic, Iree as their first choice are eligible for admission processing. While delays have been reported by some candidates, the office confirmed that admissions are still ongoing.
For candidates who claim JAMB has offered them admission while the school has not, the office noted that such issues often arise from incorrect registration details or incomplete verification. Students were advised to recheck their information according to JAMB admission guidelines.
