The Students’ Representatives Council (SRC) of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, today Monday, 19th January 2026, held its first public sitting with the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the Students’ Union Government Building, where proceedings were briefly disrupted by a verbal disagreement among principal officers.

Shortly after the SUG executives took their seats, a verbal argument and exchange of words occurred between the SRC Speaker, Comrade Ogunsaki Samuel and the SUG Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lateef Akinloye, on the floor of the House.

According to a NEB correspondent present at the sitting, the disagreement stemmed from issues relating to orderliness, the language used during proceedings, and deliberations connected to the ₦500 SUG receipt proposal for the 2025/2026 academic session.

However, it was stated that the disagreement was linked to an earlier meeting involving an appointed joint committee, where discussions on the ₦500 SUG proposal reportedly stalled due to the non-presentation of a statement of account, which was required to finalize the matter.

In line with the SRC constitution, matters arising from committee deliberations are expected to be communicated to the Senate President through the Deputy Speaker, who was appointed by the Senate.

Furthermore, the failure to properly transmit or present the required financial documents reportedly contributed to tensions during the sitting. This development was also linked to an assault case originating from the Office of the Speaker, which was acknowledged by the House.

The situation further escalated following allegations of the use of vulgar language, which reportedly heightened emotions and led to a confrontation among members of the House.

Following the exchange, the SRC Speaker directed the SUG PRO to leave the sitting.

Despite the disruption, the meeting continued under the supervision of the Senate President, Comrade Ogunsaki Samuel, with the presence of key SUG executives, including the SUG President, Comrade Ajayi Kehinde, Vice President, Abdulsalam Oyatoye, General Secretary, Anuoluwapo Odudu, alongside other SRC and SUG executives.
