The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has engaged the Iree office of the Power Distribution Company (NEPA) over persistent electricity challenges affecting students on and off campus.

The courtesy visit, led by the SUG President, Comrade Ajayi Kehinde, was aimed at seeking clarification on the recent inconsistency in power supply and exploring possible solutions to improve electricity availability for students within the Iree community.

During the meeting, officials of the Iree NEPA office explained that the town currently operates under the B and C electricity supply category, which determines the quantity and regularity of power allocated to Iree and its environs.

According to the NEPA technical engineer, the power situation is influenced by this allocation, but efforts are ongoing to ensure a more stable supply within the existing framework.

The officials further disclosed that cases of low voltage and unstable electricity experienced in some areas are largely caused by weak wiring connections and transformer overload.

To address this, NEPA revealed that an additional transformer is currently being installed at the Federal Government Area of Iree.

The development, they said, is expected to reduce pressure on the existing transformer and improve power distribution, especially in areas with a high concentration of students.

NEPA officials also appealed to students to cooperate with technical personnel during inspections and maintenance exercises in hostels and residential areas, noting that such cooperation would help in the timely identification and resolution of electricity-related faults.

The SUG, in turn, reaffirmed its commitment to continuously engage relevant authorities in the interest of students’ welfare and called on students to remain patient as efforts are being made to improve the power situation in the community.
