‘We Are No Longer Interested In The Election’ - 4 Faculty, 12 Department Presidents
A body called The Coalition of Like-Minded Departments ( CLMD) of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has released a report, making it known that they are not participating in the SUG election that will produce an unopposed president.
This was made known in a report released by CLMD which was signed by the following presidents ; FFS President, Accountancy department president, Banking and finance department president, FMS president, Bus Admin department president, Purchasing and supply department president, Marketing department president, FENG President, Computer Engineering Department president, Mech Eng dept president, Civil Eng Dept president, Agric dept president, Elect Elect Dept president, Welding and fabric dept president, FVTE president, Business Education president.
The report which was released as a reaction towards the name of a SUG presidential aspirant ‘PATH’ which was excluded from the ISEC list of eligible contestants,make reference to the SUG election between Dammy Gold and Bengee stating that Dammy Gold didn't meet the CGPA requirements but was allowed to contest.
Also, it was stated that the SUG Election between Olans and Impeccable was also allowed even after Olans didn't meet up with the CGPA requirements.
The body however stand on the position that the office of the president election shouldn't be run unopposed. The report, Reads;
“Our attention had been pulled to a press release from the Independent Student Electoral Commission (ISEC) spreading on social media about the list of eligible contestants for the 2022/2023 Election”
“Having gone through the release of the ISEC, it was established that the ISEC decision was
vicious, cruel, and deliberate harmful to the school system in disguise for the constitution”
“For the past few years, the dostrine of necessity has been surviving in the Union constitution. The constitution will asset a position but when it turned out to be unfavorable to one party, the election's advisory council will put forward a doctrine of necessity to ensure both parties were put in symmetry in the guise of a getaway from violence”
“In the case of the last Student Union Executive election held in November 2021 between Dammygold and Bengee where the constitution affirmed the disqualification of Dammygold on his ineligibility to contest due to his inability to assuage the GPA requirements of the Constitution, the Division of Student Affairs introduced the doctrine of necessity to ensure that both parties lose out leaving out the dignity of the Constitution”
“In the case of Olan's vs Impeccable (SUG 2021), Olan's failed to satisfy the constitution's
requirements with CGPA, while the Iatar did. The same Division of Student Affairs brought up the doctrine of necessity to by pass any violence that may likely evolve and allowed Olan's to contest even though he lost, the fact that he was allowed to contest then was against the will of the Union's constitution”
“It has come again this time around, and on this note, we have come as a coalition of like-minded Departments to distance ourselves from participating in the coming unmerited election being processed by ISEC with the division of students affair”
“We equivocally want to state it clearty that; our withdrawal from participation in the coming election was based on the poor electioneering process being siphoned by some black stakeholders for their
gain without prioritizing the interest of the students”
“We are distancing ourselves not to participate in the election because we don't want to have hands in the system that will produce an unopposed President for our dear and respected Union It's a big slap on our face and on the face of the school to embark on this, and since the Division in charge of this process remains headstrong to go ahead, we don't want to have hands in the poor system that weakens and kills the spirit of activism in the students.
