BREAKING: FICT SRC Holds First Legislative Sitting Amid Nominations, Budget Disputes, Brief Suspension

The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) held its first legislative sitting, a session marked by nominations, budget controversies, and the temporary suspension of two officials.
The meeting which was held on 19th February, 2026 at New Lecture Hall 3B (NLH 3B), During the sitting, three new SRC members were nominated: Rodiat Ayomide, Omotoso Mariam, and Bolaji Ifeoluwa.
Executive positions were also filled, including Ayoola Yusuf Olamilekan for the Sport and Social Committee, Fadeye Oluwaferenmi for the Welfare and Finance Committee, and Ibrahim Rodiat for the Academic Committee.
Tensions arose when the Senate President requested that the executive submit their tenure budget, as previously instructed.
The executives reportedly failed to present the budget, citing the ongoing constitutional review as an obstacle.
The Senate President rejected this excuse, stressing that repeated reminders had already been issued.
Disagreements also occurred between the FICT President and the Senate President regarding which members should be invited to FICT and SRC meetings.
The matter was eventually resolved during the sitting.
The session saw further commotion during discussions on constitutional review, as some members complained about delays in being allowed to speak. During the unrest, the FICT Financial Secretary and FICT Auditor walked out and were initially suspended for three weeks
Following apologies, the suspension was reduced to seven working days. The council mace reportedly fell during the chaos.
Additionally, the SUG Senate President addressed concerns over the manner in which the Senate President referred to executives as “guys,” emphasizing that they should be addressed by their official titles.
The FICT President also criticized perceived disrespect toward the executive, describing it as inappropriate and unfair to SRC members.
Despite the disagreements, both the FICT President and Senate President reconciled before the end of the sitting, which concluded with discussions on constitutional review and other pending council matters.
