The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic, ( OSPOLY) Iree, organized an orientation programme for newly admitted ND I and HND I students at the ETF Hall.

The programme, led by the SUG President, Comrade Ajayi Kehinde on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, focused on security awareness, academic discipline, and responsible campus living.

Delivering a security lecture, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Iree Division, CSP Falake, urged students to be security conscious both on and off campus.

He emphasized that personal safety begins with individual responsibility, particularly the kind of friends students associate with and how careful they are in their daily movements.

“Your personal safety is your responsibility. Be mindful of the friends you keep and the circle you belong to,” he advised, noting that wrong associations often lead to personal insecurity and trouble.

The DPO also warned students against joining unlawful groups under the guise of “brotherhood” or “sisterhood,” describing cultism as a dangerous path that destroys academic goals and future opportunities.

He cautioned students to refrain from illegal activities such as cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, internet fraud, and other social vices.

“Your body is not a commodity. Do not destroy your future because of temporary pleasure or pressure,” he said.

He further advised students not to compete with one another in dressing, lifestyle, or material possessions, encouraging them instead to focus on building a strong academic foundation.

“Work hard now to get good grades. Remove the mindset of getting rich quickly through unlawful means,” he added.

The DPO assured students that his office remains open to them and encouraged them to report suspicious activities.

“If you see something, say something. My duty is to catch criminals, but your duty is to be careful and security conscious,” he stated.

However, the institution’s Portal Manager, Mr. Adegboye O., congratulated the students on securing admission and stressed the importance of proper registration and course enrollment.

He explained that after payment of school fees, students must complete course registration correctly to avoid carryovers or outstanding courses.

He also disclosed that management is working towards introducing Computer-Based Tests (CBT), beginning with selected courses.

The orientation was attended by the Student Affairs Officer (SAO), Mr. Olawoyin; the DPO, CSP Falake; the Portal Manager, Mr. Adegboye O.O.; the NANS JCC chairman, Comrade Solomon Ayobami; and faculty presidents.

The event ended with an inter-faculty quiz competition where the Faculty of Environmental Studies emerged first, the Faculty of Science came second, and the Faculty of Management Studies secured third place.
