The Dean of Students Affairs, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Dr. Tope Alabi, has officially affirmed that the NAMACOS Editorial Board (NEB) operates as an independent journalistic body within the Institution.
The declaration was made during a recent meeting held at the Dean’s office, 2nd March, 2026 where the NAMACOS SRC Hon. Sen. Olaoye Benjamin Itunuoluwa, and the Namacos Editorial Executive were present to deliberate on issues concerning campus journalism and administrative structure.
During the meeting, the Dean emphasized that the Editorial Board is established to practice journalism on campus and must be allowed to function professionally without undue political interference.
He stated that NEB should be able to stand on its own as a media body, guided by journalistic ethics and responsibility rather than political direction.
The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding constitutional interpretation and the structural relationship between the association’s political leadership and its editorial arm.
According to NEB Correspondence, the Dean reiterated that NEB is important for institutional harmony, editorial decisions, and media operations should remain within the professional jurisdiction of the Editorial Board.
The meeting ended with a shared understanding that NEB’s role is to inform, report, and document campus activities responsibly, while operating within the framework of institutional regulations.
