Concerns were raised during the Namacos Students’ Representative Council (SRC) sitting held at New Lecture Hall ( NLH 3 ), Iree, over alleged financial discrepancies, constitutional compliance, and leadership conduct within the National Association of Mass Communication Students (NAMACOS).
The sitting, held today 20th April, 2026 and presided over by the SRC Speaker, Senator Olaoye Benjamin Itunu, was primarily convened for budget review and deliberation on financial matters affecting student associations.
It was alleged during the sitting that the department president, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem raised over the handling of departmental funds for 11 receipts, each of which per one is ₦2,500 each, amounting to ₦27,500, reportedly collected from the ND I class governor for association-related purposes.
Questions were raised over compliance with financial procedures, as the Financial Secretary, Olanitori Omolola Mary (Lady Khim), reportedly stated that constitutional provisions must be followed, emphasizing that a teller is required before any exchange or issuance of receipts can be carried out.
It was further alleged that the required teller had not yet been issued at the time the transaction process was being discussed, contrary to established financial procedures.
When further questioned, the NAMACOS President, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem, reportedly stated that the funds had been handed over to the erstwhile NAMACOS President, Shuib Abdullahi, and the Financial Secretary.
However, the erstwhile president and the Financial Secretary, reportedly stated that only ₦10,000 was received by them, corresponding to four receipts, raising further concerns among members present.
In addition to the financial issue, the SRC Speaker, Senator Olaoye Benjamin Itunu, raised concerns regarding departmental orientation for students.
During the discussion, the NAMACOS President, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem, reportedly stated that the Vice President, Oluronbi Lateef (Ola), was in charge of orientation. However, it was noted that such responsibility is constitutionally assigned to the Social Director, Babalola Favour Olawale (Olaskit), raising concerns over proper role allocation within the executive council.
When further questioned on the issue, the NAMACOS President, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem, reportedly stated that during his tenure, no orientation would be conducted, despite orientation being an important process for familiarizing students with departmental structure and academic activities.
The development reportedly led to further deliberations, after which the SRC instructed the NAMACOS President, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem, to remain seated. However, he reportedly declined and walked out of the meeting with some of the executives.
In response, the SRC Speaker, Senator Olaoye Benjamin Itunu, was said to have appealed for calm and requested that space be given to allow proceedings to continue smoothly.
Additionally, the SUG SRC reportedly cautioned the NAMACOS SRC representative to properly understand and utilize the responsibilities of his office, urging him to avoid bias and ensure fairness in the discharge of his duties.
The series of events sparked concerns among council members, prompting calls for clarification, accountability, and strict adherence to constitutional and administrative procedures within NAMACOS.
Concerns raised are aimed at promoting transparency, fairness, and proper governance within student leadership structures, rather than targeting individuals.
He further urged relevant stakeholders to provide clarifications on the issues raised to strengthen trust, discipline, and effective administration within Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
