• FICTSA Leadership Responds to Allegations of Financial Discrepancy, Denies Wrongdoing

The President of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology Students’ Association (FICTSA), Comrade Omosanya Joseph, also known as Josbright, has reacted to the allegations of financial discrepancy raised by the Treasurer, Comrade Babalakin Yusuf Olashile, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.

NEB had earlier reported that the Treasurer alleged a difference between the approved budget and the amount withdrawn from the association’s account, raising concerns over transparency and accountability within the leadership.

However, in his response while speakings is the one with NEB correspondent, the FICTSA President dismissed the allegation, stating that due process was followed in all financial transactions.

“I don’t know where he got the allegation from. He was present at the meeting where the entire budget was discussed and approved. He also personally signed at the bank during the withdrawal process, and I can provide evidence to support this,” he said.

The President further disclosed that the Treasurer was not only aware of the process but also actively involved in it.

“He even wrote part of the budget and received both the budget fees and his two months’ salary,” he added.

Addressing the issue of the memo reportedly sent by the Treasurer demanding a breakdown of the total amount within 48 hours, the President described the approach as inappropriate.

“He sent a memo to my direct message requesting for the total breakdown with a 48-hour ultimatum. That sounds authoritative and it is not his duty to demand such from my office,” he explained.

According to him, efforts were made to resolve the issue internally before it became public.

“I told him in the group to calm down that we would resolve it. The Senate President also assured him that a meeting would be called to address the matter,” he said.

The President also noted that the Treasurer’s calculation of ₦1.2 million was incomplete, as some approved items were not included.

“When I saw his calculation, I pointed out that he made a mistake by not adding executive salaries, the Financial Secretary’s budget, and the cost of 40 packs of receipts. He didn’t respond to that before going public with the allegation,” he stated.

He further challenged the Treasurer’s claim of being unaware of the withdrawal.

“He claimed he was not aware of the money withdrawn, which is completely untrue. If he knew nothing about it, why did he sign during the withdrawal process?” he queried.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Legislative Council (SLC) had earlier issued a statement affirming that the total amount withdrawn corresponds with the approved budget and that all financial processes followed due procedure.

The Council also announced the suspension of the Treasurer for one month over what it described as defamation and dissemination of unverified information.
