• BREAKING: NANS Gives OSPOLY Seven-Day Ultimatum, Demands Independent Probe

    By Samuel Akintola

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given a seven-day ultimatum for an independent investigation into the issues surrounding Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, warning that it may stage a nationwide action at the institution if its demands are not met.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 2nd July 2026, NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, said the call for an investigation was not aimed at victimising anyone, but at protecting students' welfare and restoring confidence in the institution.

According to him, the association wants agencies including the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations raised.

He warned that if no investigation begins within seven days, NANS would relocate its national leadership to the OSPOLY campus and commence what it described as a peaceful struggle until the issues are addressed.

In the statement, NANS alleged that students have been facing poor academic conditions, including inadequate lectures, continuous payment of various charges, and technical difficulties during the recently introduced Computer-Based Test (CBT) examinations.

The association also claimed that many students experienced glitches on the examination portal, while others struggled to complete their examinations due to network and technical problems. It further alleged that the challenges led to overcrowding at examination centres, with some students reportedly fainting during the exercise.

NANS also called on TETFund and other relevant agencies to examine the institution's use of intervention funds, particularly those meant for ICT development, and investigate allegations relating to student records and other administrative practices.

The student body maintained that an independent investigation would help establish the facts, restore confidence in the institution, and address the concerns raised by students.

Efforts to get the reaction of the management of Osun State Polytechnic and the institution's chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The latest development has further intensified discussions among students and stakeholders over welfare, academic standards, and the administration of the institution.
