Business Administration Department Holds Seminar to Strengthen Students' Research and Presentation Skills

The Department of Business Administration and Management Studies, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has organised a seminar to equip students with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed for academic research, project writing and public presentations.
The seminar brought together ND II, HND I and HND II students for paper presentations, research discussions and interactive sessions aimed at preparing them for their academic and professional careers.
During the programme, HND I students presented seminar papers in groups of 10, while ND II and HND II students delivered individual presentations.
Speaking with the NEB Correspondence, a lecturer in the department, Dr. Oyeniyi Kamal Olawale, said the seminar was introduced to expose students to research writing before they begin their final-year projects.
According to him, the initiative bridges the gap between seminar writing and project writing while helping students understand research ethics and avoid plagiarism. He added that the exercise is in line with the requirements of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which expects graduating students to produce original research work.

Dr. Oyeniyi further explained that the seminar enables supervisors to guide students through the research process before they commence their final-year projects, thereby improving the quality of their academic work.
Also speaking, the Chief Lecturer in the department and Director of Career Services, Adekunle Olalekan, described the seminar as a practical approach to preparing students for life after graduation.

He noted that employers now seek graduates with practical knowledge, research competence and effective communication skills rather than theoretical knowledge alone. He added that the seminar serves as a preparatory exercise for final-year students while introducing lower-level students to research methods early enough to ease the challenges of project writing.
He further disclosed that participation in the seminar forms part of students' continuous assessment, with marks awarded to encourage seriousness, commitment and active participation.
The President of the Business Administration and Management Department, Oguntola Yunus Tolulope, said the seminar broadened students' understanding of different academic topics and exposed them to new ideas beyond the classroom. She noted that the programme has helped students develop a wider perspective on research and learning.
Similarly, the HND II Class Governor, Comrade Ayodele Ibrahim Ishola, described the seminar as a valuable initiative that builds students' confidence in research, public speaking and academic presentations.
He added that the programme prepares students to present themselves confidently in professional settings while enhancing their academic performance.
