OSPOLY Holds Pre-Mobilization Briefing for HND II Students Ahead of NYSC

The Management of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, through the Directorate of Student Affairs, organised a Pre-Mobilization Briefing for all Higher National Diploma (HND II) students to educate prospective graduates on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization process, eligibility requirements, and camp documentation ahead of graduation.

The programme, which was held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the institution's Education Trust Fund (ETF) Hall, was designed for HND II Students to sensitise final-year students on the objectives, procedures, and statutory requirements of the NYSC scheme while addressing frequently asked questions that could affect their mobilisation.

In his opening remarks, the Students Affairs Officer explained that the briefing was organised to prevent students from encountering avoidable challenges during mobilisation. He also enlightened participants on the importance of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD), stressing that uploading final-year projects to the NERD portal is now part of the requirements for NYSC mobilisation.

Speaking on behalf of the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, Mrs. Taiwo Fatima introduced students to the history, purpose and objectives of the National Youth Service Corps. She explained that the briefing is organised annually across tertiary institutions to prepare graduating students for a successful mobilisation exercise.

She stated that the objectives of the scheme include promoting national unity, instilling discipline among Nigerian youths, exposing graduates to diverse cultures and environments, and providing opportunities for personal development and skill acquisition.

Mrs. Fatima explained that only Nigerian graduates of recognised institutions who meet the statutory requirements are eligible for national service, while graduates above the age of 30 and members of the armed forces and other security agencies are exempted in line with NYSC regulations.

She further disclosed that, due to the country's security situation, the NYSC has made provisions for prospective corps members to apply for relocation on security or medical grounds where necessary.

The NYSC representative advised students to complete their online registration personally, stressing that registration and biometric capture must not be done by proxy to avoid future complications. She also urged students to use only blood relatives as their next of kin during registration.

Speaking on deployment, she explained that corps members are posted to states across the federation to promote national integration and are generally not deployed to their states of origin.

She added that married female prospective corps members seeking deployment to their husbands' states of residence must upload relevant documents, including a marriage certificate, evidence of change of name where applicable, and their husband's valid means of identification, such as a national identity card or driver's licence.

Mrs. Fatima advised prospective corps members to ensure that all names on their academic credentials are correctly arranged and consistent. She also stressed that the date on the Statement of Result must correspond with the information on the NYSC Call-up Letter to avoid registration issues at the orientation camp.

She listed the major documents required for camp registration to include the coloured Call-up Letter, original Statement of Result, Institution Identity Card, NIN Slip and evidence of completion of Industrial Training (IT), particularly for ND graduates required to complete the mandatory IT programme. She added that pregnant women and nursing mothers are eligible for camp documentation but would be allowed to return home after registration.

Also speaking, the Head of ICT, NYSC Osun State, Miss Akinsanmi Kikelomo, educated students on the online registration process and advised them to register by themselves or patronise only accredited NYSC registration centres to avoid cyber fraud.

The Director of Research and Publications, Dr. Odebunmi Abayomi, also explained the procedures for uploading final-year projects to the NERD portal. He disclosed that the approved plagiarism threshold for project approval is 18 per cent and directed all HND Class Governors to obtain their faculties' official email addresses from his office for the upload exercise.

During the interactive session, officials confirmed that graduates who obtained their National Diploma (ND) through the Part-Time programme and Higher National Diploma (HND) through the Full-Time programme are eligible for NYSC mobilisation, provided they meet all other requirements.

The Management urged all prospective corps members to comply with the guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful NYSC mobilisation process.
