OSPOLY Mass Communication Trains HND I Students in Public Speaking, Recognises Outstanding Performers

The Department of Mass Communication, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has organised a public speaking and presentation seminar for HND I students of Strategic Communication and Media Studies to strengthen their communication and presentation skills.
The seminar, organised as part of the requirements for SCM 326 (Public Speaking and Presentation), was facilitated by the course lecturers, Dr. Tope Abiola and Mr. Adekunle Sikiru (Abacus).
The programme, held at New Lecture Hall 1 beside the Odua Mass Communication Complex, focused on practical training designed to help students develop confidence, effective presentation techniques and public speaking abilities needed in the contemporary digital environment.
As part of the exercise, students delivered public speaking presentations before their colleagues and lecturers. Six outstanding students were recognised and awarded for their exceptional performances by the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo.

Speaking on the students’ performances, the HOD, Mass Communication, Dr. Aderemi Adeagbo; Head of Strategic Communication Unit, Mr. Bidemi Oriowo; Coordinator, Daily Part-Time Programme, Mr. Temitope Adewumi; Coordinator, Mass Communication Unilorin Affiliated Programme, Mr. Akinola Akinlabi; and Mrs. Banke Olujimi expressed satisfaction with the level of performance displayed by the students.
They commended Mr. Sikiru for his initiative and commitment to creating a practical platform where students could develop public speaking skills from an early stage.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Adekunle Sikiru, who is also the Acting Head of the Department of Photography Technology, attributed the success of the programme to the guidance and support provided by the Senior Lecturer in charge of the course, Dr. Tope Abiola.
He also appreciated the Polytechnic Management, under the leadership of the Rector, Comrade Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi, for creating opportunities for practical-oriented learning.
Sikiru described practical training programmes such as the seminar as valuable platforms for preparing students to communicate effectively and compete favourably in the evolving digital environment.
