OSPOLY DECIDE'26: Student Leaders Petition ISEC Over SRC Election Date Change, Demand Restoration
Concerned student leaders and students of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, led by Oladeji Israel Victor, have petitioned the Independent Students Electoral Commission (ISEC) over the proposed alteration of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) election date.
The petition, dated September 10, 2026, followed the Commission's decision to move the SRC election from the initially communicated Friday, September 25, 2026, to Monday, September 14, 2026.
The petitioners described the change as a significant alteration of the electoral timetable, noting that it brings the election forward by 11 days. They expressed concerns about the decision's possible implications for transparency, fairness, due process, and confidence in the electoral process.
According to the petition, aspirants and other stakeholders had based their campaign activities, meetings, mobilisation and preparations on the earlier September 25 date. The student leaders argued that bringing the election forward could disrupt those preparations and potentially place some aspirants at a disadvantage.
They also questioned the level of consultation preceding the proposed change, maintaining that aspirants, student leaders, Class Governors and other relevant stakeholders should be adequately informed and consulted before substantial changes are made to an officially communicated electoral timetable.
The petitioners further called on ISEC to clarify the constitutional, regulatory or administrative authority upon which it relied in altering the election date.
Among their demands, they called for the restoration of Friday, September 25, 2026, as the SRC election date and requested a public explanation of the reasons and procedural basis for the proposed alteration.
They also urged the Commission to ensure that future adjustments to the electoral timetable are subjected to proper consultation and communicated promptly to relevant stakeholders.
The petitioners reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful, free, fair and transparent SRC election, urging ISEC to reconsider the date change in the interest of the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process.
Copies of the petition were indicated for the Chairman of the Governing Council, the Rector, OSPOLY Alumni President, Dean of Student Affairs, Registrar, Faculty Deans, and Heads of Departments.
The petition was electronically signed by Oladeji Israel Victor and other concerned student leaders.
