The Students’ Union Executive, today, 12th January 2025, held a courtesy and security-focused meeting with the newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Iree, CSP S. R. Faleke, to strengthen collaboration between student leaders and the police in ensuring the safety of students within the community.

The meeting, which took place recently at the Board of Studies (BOS), was aimed at formally introducing the Students’ Union leadership to the new DPO and discussing key security challenges affecting students both on and off campus.

During the meeting, the Students’ Union raised several security concerns and threats faced by students in the Iree community.

In response, CSP Faleke assured the Union that strategic security measures have been put in place to curb criminal activities, apprehend offenders, and protect students and their properties.

Furthermore, the DPO emphasized that any arrest of students by the Iree Police Division or external police units operating within the community would be based strictly on verified and legitimate grounds.

He assured the students that innocent individuals would not be unjustly punished.

Addressing the issues over alleged extortion by external police officers, CSP Faleke stated that such cases would be thoroughly investigated and appropriately handled if reported through the proper channels.

Following the meeting, the Students’ Union advised all students to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while urging them to promptly report any individual or group posing a threat to student safety, both within and outside the campus environment.

The meeting marks a renewed effort by the Students’ Union and the Nigeria Police Force to foster mutual understanding and enhance security cooperation in the interest of students’ welfare.
