BREAKING: NAMACOS Rolls Out ₦1,000 Press ID Card, ₦100 Teller-to-Receipt Charges
By Samuel Akintola
The National Association of Mass Communication Students (NAMACOS), Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has directed ND I and HND I students to pay ₦1,000 for the production of a Press ID Card.
According to a memo dated February 4, 2026, signed by the NAMACOS President, Comrade Olayemi Kazeem Adebayo, and the General Secretary, Oladele Iyiola Israel, the Press ID card is described as a compulsory professional identity tool required for fieldwork, interviews, media visits, reportage, and other departmental activities.
Students were advised to make payment to a designated account to avoid potential restrictions from participating in departmental and association engagements that are not department accounts.
However, the directive appears to contradict an earlier interview session conducted by NEB executives with the NAMACOS President and other principal officers, during which it was reportedly stated that ID cards would not be issued for newly admitted students at the time.
During that session, the President was said to have explained that the association had its own plans regarding identification.
The recent announcement has generated reactions among some students, particularly as ND I and HND I students had earlier paid ₦2,000 for departmental receipts.
It is noteworthy that the National Editorial Board (NEB), an approved departmental media body, traditionally operates with officially recognized Press ID cards for editorial and reportage duties within the department.
This Decision has therefore raised questions regarding the authorization and structure of multiple identification cards carrying the “PRESS” designation.
Moreover, in interviews conducted by NEB, some students also alleged that they were required to pay an additional ₦100 to convert their payment teller into an official NAMACOS receipt through the Financial Secretary.
So, this brought a question among the NEB based on the ₦100 charge, noting that they had earlier paid ₦2,000 for departmental receipts and are now being directed to pay ₦1,000 for a Press ID card.
One student, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, asked:
“If we have already paid ₦2,000 for departmental receipts, why are we paying ₦100 again to change the teller to a receipt?”
NEB has therefore called for clarification on:
1. The reason for the change in position regarding ID card production;
2. Whether the ₦1,000 fee is separate from the departmental receipt payment;
3. The breakdown of charges approved for the academic session;
4. The distinction between the proposed Press ID card and existing editorial identification;
5. And the basis of the reported ₦100 teller-to-receipt charge.
