The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has described graduating students as the pride of their families and future innovators, technologists, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will shape the development of the state and the nation.
Adeleke, who was represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, made this known on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the 8th Combined Convocation Ceremony of Osun State Polytechnic, held at the institution’s pavilion in Iree.
In his address, the Governor also called for strict adherence to due process, transparency, and accountability in the management of tertiary institutions across the state.
Speaking as the Visitor to the institution, he emphasized that all Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives must strictly comply with established laws and approval procedures, warning that any breach in project execution, loan applications, or partnership agreements would not be tolerated.
According to him, management and governing councils of tertiary institutions must observe approval thresholds and ensure that major PPP projects are referred to the appropriate ministerial board and the Visitor for final approval. He further stressed the need for due diligence on partners and the issuance of certificates of compliance before implementation.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening tertiary education, noting that the government would continue to support initiatives that promote academic excellence, research, and innovation.
Adeleke congratulated the Rector, management, staff, and governing council of the Polytechnic for the progress recorded in recent years, particularly in academic accreditation, infrastructure development, and technological advancement.
He also commended the 1,500 awardee students, noting that their certificates symbolize years of determination, sacrifice, and resilience that have taken them here.
“Each certificate you receive today represents years of determination, sacrifice, and resilience. You are the pride of your families and the future of our society,” he said.
Highlighting achievements of his administration in the education sector over the past three years, the Governor listed improved accreditation of courses, provision of modern equipment for laboratories and workshops, and increased support for academic research, particularly in science and technology.
He disclosed that several innovations have emerged from the Polytechnic, including the development of fuel-less vehicles by engineering students, while lecturers are being sponsored for higher academic qualifications to enhance service delivery.
Other achievements, he said, include the moderation of school fees, provision of operational vehicles for student bodies, employment of about 2,000 teachers in primary and secondary schools, and improved performance of students in national examinations such as WAEC and NECO—from 30th to 5th position nationwide.
Adeleke further revealed that student union leaders are sponsored annually for leadership training in Lagos, while plans are underway to recruit more lecturers for tertiary institutions despite prevailing financial constraints.
Charging the graduating students, the Governor urged them to apply their knowledge and skills to solving real-world problems and creating opportunities for societal growth.
“The world you are entering is dynamic and competitive. It rewards creativity, resilience, and integrity. Your education has prepared you for this moment,” he said.
He concluded by encouraging the graduates to uphold the values of their institution as they step into the next phase of their lives, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
