• JUST IN: Nigeria Police Reinforces School Security with 24-Hour Emergency Response Centre

    By Samuel Akintola

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified its commitment to strengthening safety in educational institutions across the country through the activation of its Schools Protection Squad (SPS) Command and Control Centre, a 24-hour emergency response system designed to address security threats affecting students, staff, and school communities.

The initiative, coordinated from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, provides a dedicated communication channel for reporting emergencies, including attacks on schools, hostel-related incidents, bullying, harassment, kidnapping, and other security concerns.

According to the SPS, members of the public and students can report incidents via calls or WhatsApp messages to 0807 735 7777, with trained personnel available round the clock to respond to distress situations.

The campaign also encourages students and residents around campuses to remain security-conscious and report suspicious movements or unfamiliar persons within school environments.

It aligns with the principle of “See Something, Say Something,” which promotes community participation in crime prevention and early warning response.

The National Coordinator of the Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding educational institutions, noting that the programme is part of broader efforts to improve school safety nationwide.

For many students, particularly those in off-campus accommodation, the initiative provides an added sense of security, while student leaders have described it as a welcome development capable of improving emergency response times and preventing escalation of threats.

Stakeholders have urged students to save the emergency contact and make responsible use of the platform in genuine cases of emergency.

Students are advised to remain vigilant, avoid sharing sensitive personal information with strangers, and promptly report suspicious activities to school authorities or the SPS emergency line.
