The Students' s Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic ( OSPOLY), Iree, has concluded it's Maiden SUG Trade Fair 1.0, providing a platform for student entrepreneurs and business owners to showcase and promote their products while attracting customers from across campus.
The two-day event was held on Monday, July 20 - July 21, 2026, at the SUG Building of the institution.
The SUG Social Director, Comrade Aderounmu Tomiwa Timileyin, said the ideas for the trade fair came from his desire to introduce an initiative that had never been implemented by previous occupants of the office of the Social Director.
According to Aderounmu, " I looked at the history of the office and discovered that nothing like this has been done before. The aim was to create opportunities for students who rely on their businesses to support themselves financially while pursuing their education ".
He disclosed that the SUG plans to organise another edition of the trade fair during the forthcoming freshers and Final Year Brethren (FYB) week, with the hope of expanding participation and creating more opportunities for student entrepreneurs.
In addition, he attributed the success of the programme to the collective efforts of the SUG Executive Council led by Comrade Ajayi Kehinde Emmanuel, saying the event would not have been possible without their support.
Moreso, he advised future Social Directors to sustain innovative programmes that would positively impact students, noting that he equally sought ideas and guidance from former Social Directors before organising the event.
In another development, one of the traders, Johnson Omoniyi, described the event as a huge success, noting that the large student turnout led to increased patronage and improved sales.
Therefore, she said, "There were many buyers who patronized my brand . The trade fair gave us a great opportunity to display, sell, and promote our goods and services".
