OSPOLY Photography Technology Department Holds Practical Workshop on Camera Handling, Videography

The Department of Photography Technology, Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, on Friday, July 24, 2026, organized a one-day practical workshop on camera handling and videography to equip students with industry-relevant skills and improve their technical competence in photography and video production.
The workshop, held at the Department of Photography Technology Lecture Room, brought together students for hands-on training in camera operations, videography techniques, equipment handling, and professional production practices.
Speaking during the programme, the Head of the Department, Adekunle Sikiru (Abacus), said the workshop was organized to complement classroom learning with practical experience. He noted that photography and videography are skill-driven professions that require continuous practical experience to meet the demands of today's rapidly evolving technological landscape.
According to him, the training was designed to provide students with practical knowledge that would prepare them for professional opportunities within and outside Nigeria.
He added that the department remains committed to producing graduates who are academically sound and professionally equipped to compete in the global creative industry.
The workshop featured practical demonstrations on camera handling, camera settings, composition, shot types, camera movements, videography techniques, and proper maintenance of photographic equipment.

Students participated actively in the interactive sessions, receiving practical guidance from experienced facilitators while applying the techniques through hands-on exercises.
In an interview, the President of the Department of Photography Technology, Comrade Akinwale Oluwatimileyin, described the workshop as timely and beneficial. He said the practical session gave students a better understanding of camera operations, lens handling, and photography techniques. He encouraged students to make good use of the knowledge gained during the training to improve their professional skills.
Also speaking, one of the facilitators, Mr. Olalekan Oyebade, thanked God for the successful conduct of the workshop and commended the students for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. He noted that photography has continued to gain recognition as an academic discipline and a viable career path, adding that students who take the profession seriously can earn a sustainable income while still studying through photography and videography services.
Participants expressed appreciation to the department for organizing the workshop, describing it as impactful and practical. They noted that the training boosted their confidence and technical skills, while reaffirming the department's commitment to delivering quality practical education that aligns with industry standards and the vision of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, in producing skilled and innovative professionals.
